Nathan Goshen is an Israeli pop sensation who first shot to fame after KVR’s remix of his song ‘Thinking About It (Let It Go)’ went viral. With almost 100 million streams to its name, the song’s success opened up Nathan’s music to a brand new audience worldwide.
Since then, Nathan has won countless awards, including ‘Man of the Year’ and ‘Singer of the Year’ by Galgalatz, and has featured as a guest judge on the Israeli edition of The X Factor. His latest offering, ‘Home’, is anthemic, emotional and relatable; all the ingredients for a great hit. Additionally, Nathan has teamed up with Avi Nesher to star in his upcoming feature film.
We recently spoke to Nathan about ‘Home’, his incredible achievements and personal highlights so far.
Congratulations on the release of your new single ‘Home’! How have you found the reaction to it so far?
It’s doing great here in Israel, we’re waiting to see what it does outside of the country.
Can you tell us about the song and the inspiration behind it?
I was traveling for a couple of weeks and things started to get complicated at home and I wrote it to feel closer to my family than I was at the time.
Alongside the song, you’ve filmed five short videos that depict the word ‘home’. Can you tell us a little about these videos?
We wanted to talk to several people, each one from a different place with a different story to see what home means to them. The outcome is interesting.
What was your first musical memory?
Music class in third grade, I was playing some instrument and the teacher said I can do better.
You rose to fame outside of your home country thanks to the viral KVR remix of your song ‘Thinking About It (Let It Go)’. Why do you think the song has had such a global impact?
I wish I knew! I don’t think in that direction at all, if something big happens with a song I’m grateful but I’m not focusing on that.
You’ve since won numerous awards and gained musical accolades. What does it mean to you to achieve these things?
It’s nice to have but it doesn’t change anything for me, I tend to work hard, always onto the next one.
Who inspires you musically and how has your Israeli roots influenced you musically?
I listen to a lot of music from different parts of the world, I can’t really put my finger on someone in particular, but Israeli artists have influenced me as well.
What advice would you give to anyone trying to carve a career in the music industry?
Respect the process and stay humble, patient and focused.
What has been your personal highlight so far?
My Mom came to one of the biggest shows we did and told me it was worth the wait, that conversation took my back a long way in our relationship. The concert was amazing but that moment was definitely the highlight.
You teamed up with Avi Nesher for a leading role in his feature film ‘Pilgrim’. Can you tell us about your role in the film and your experience?
It was the first time for me and I had to trust Avi completely to dive in that project like I knew I had to, I’m proud of that experience. I didn’t see the result yet, which is very exciting for me.
What does the rest of 2017 have in store for you?
More music, here in Israel and internationally as well, hard work!
Thank you to Nathan Goshen for his time. ‘Home’ is available now.
